  • SCMA Conference Report

There were some very useful sessions at the Southern Community Media Assosiation Conference in Wagga over the weekend. Especially valuable for us were the workshops on production, copyrighting, getting music, and business planning. We have three more Finalists Certificates to go on the wall - Sponsorship message: Mitre 10, OB: St Pats Fete, Interview: Council Roads Discussion - but unfortunatley no more X-Awards for the trophy shelf. Competition was very intense with an outstanding singing sponsorship announcement for Bushmans Bread winning in that catergory. Once again it was a good opportunity to catch up with people from other stations and to browse the trade displays.

  • Fourth Guest Mic Gets A Work Out

With our Wednesday 11am U3A radio session, and more recently for Monday Monthly , the fourth guest microphone has been getting quite a bit of use lately. Our guests from the Shire last Monday included the Mayor Cr Sanderson, Central Ward Councillor David Atkinson, Corporate Services Director Laurie Ellis and Community Development Officer Samantha Bender. Monday Monthly is a valuable opportunity to catch up with Council news and especially to get to know some of the council staff and what their roles involve.

  • Clonbinane Market

As it's not very easy for Stall holders to come to use for an interview at OB's we were able to go to them at The Clonbinane Market on Saturday. We could record an interview at their stall and then a short while later play it back as part of the broadcast. It was good to see many stalls featuring natural and healthy products as well as their own handiwork and a treasure trove of second hand books, DVD's, clothes and toys. We were able to record the first episode of the new series on Recovery, funded by MCRAG, with this one about the stained glass windows and metalwork furniture at Clonbinane Hall. Thanks to Julian, Ellie, Mark, and the CAG Committee.

  • Health and Wellbeing Expo

A few people had to bend over to get into the Health and Wellbeing Expo but most others walked straight in. The Wallan Multi -purpose Centre was full of Community Organizations and health and wellbeing businesses with many visitors taking the opportunity to chat and find out more. At our OB we were able to interview representatives from Nexus, gotafe and Volunteering Victoria. Abigail and Mareeka from Volunteering Victoria were interested in our Volunteering series and we recorded a longer off air interview that will hopefully become a new episode of the series. Thanks to Ellie, Roger and Mark.

  • Rambles Guests

Recent guests on Rambles have included Julie Metaxotos telling some of the amazing story behind her book 'A fractured life' about her ongoing recovery from a very serious car accident. Kevin Butler paid a visit with an update on Blazeaid and other developments in disaster recovery strategy he is working on. Rob Mitchell had some small wins to report in the saga of mobile reception black spots but he says the 'battle' is not yet won. To round out the week, Amanda Byrne, Clinical Nurse Educator from Kilmore Hospital gave a fascinating inside view of an important part of the Hospital.

  • MCRAG Grant Successful

Our grand application to the Mitchell Community Resources and Advocacy Group better known as MCRAG has been successful. We will be aiming to produce a series of short radio episodes about taking on and overcoming challenges. Hopefully the first episode about the Stained Glass Window at Clonbinane Hall can be recorded when we go to their market on March 4th. Thanks MCRAG.
